New Year Inspiraiton – What is Your Price?

By Jacklyn | January 28, 2009

I want to share a story of a presenter who has made many people realize an amazing fact during his seminar…

He started his presentation by holding up a $100 bill in the room of 200 people. Then he asked “Who would like to have this $100 bill?”

Almost everyone puts up their hands.

He then, crumpled the bill and asked the same question “Who wants it now?”

He thought that the people might not raise their hands, but.. many hands were up again!

He then tore the bill into 2 pieces and ask the audience again “who still want it now?”

Once again, almost everyone wanted that. Then, he explained to the audience…

“My friends, you have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $100.”

“Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless but it is not correct! we can always make differences to feel!”

How true. Quite often, people feel defeated, incapable and lousy when things don’t turn out well for them. That will only make the situation worst. We must keep reminding ourselves of our self worth, just like that $100 bill. No matter how crumpled or bad-shape we can be at this moment, we are still worthy. In fact, I think our value increases even more as we have gain valuable experiences through the actions we took.

When we choose to think and feel this way, we put ourselves in a more resourceful state to handle whatever situation and move on. Remember, we have the power to choose. You can choose to be positive or negative, you can choose to feel big or small and you can choose to be happy or sad. I choose to live a life full of positivity, excitement and happiness… what about you?

Please share your thoughts with us and leave some encouraging.. inspiring.. empowering.. words for our readers…

Have an awesome year 2009 ahead!

Thanks jackylyn for this great story. It is indeed very true that for many, their lack of self-worth is a blockage to what they can achieve in life! Good motivational piece!

    How true, BokJae…

That’s one of reasons why I am so passionate about personal development education.

    Hi Jacklyn,
I get really upset when people take our goodness to be a weakness. In this scenario, what should we do, should we stop being good and act tough like being rude or snubbing everyone out around you? Pls. do write a post on this topic.
If it’s possible how to tackle our anger or agony when we are betrayed by others for being good to them. In my freelance career and advertising career I found several of them; I think the case is true with others too.
Pls. guide us through a post how to handle this.
Thanks for the great posts here in your blog!
    Regards
    Solomon

    Dear Solomon,

Thanks for sharing your voice here. I do agree with you that sometimes, people do take advantage of other people’s kindness. Well, as we cannot control how other people behave, we can always choose what kind of response we are going to act upon.

It is definitely possible to tackle our anger, agony and all other positive and negative emotions. NLP practitioners can deal with that quickly and easily. Thanks for the suggestion and I will write a post on this topic.

You will be notified once the post is up, though may be it will be after my US NLP trainer’s course trip next month.

All the best and God bless.
